Merry Xmas from the Shockoe Examiner and Adele Clark.

This letter to Santa Claus was published December 22, 1895 in the Richmond Dispatch. This is the earliest appearance I could find of a mention of Adele Clark in a Richmond newspaper using the Library of Congress' Chronicling America site.

Clark (1882-1983) was one of 18 women who founded the Equal Suffrage League of Virginia in Nov. of 1909. The ESL would become the League of Women Voters of Virginia in 1920 after women won the right to vote. Adele would lead that organization for nearly 15 years. She was also an artist and art teacher and active in civic affairs her entire life.

The book she wanted, Jo's Boys, was originally published in 1886 and written by Louisa May Alcott (1832-1888).

If her home address says 302 E. Franklin it's funny that's now the location of the times dispatch that she was writing to.
