Richmond Movies Online

An image from one of about a dozen films of Richmond - this is Broad Street, 1917.

A historian recently sent me a link to CriticalPast, a company that has "Stock footage and millions of stock photo images comprising one of the largest royalty-free archival footage collections in the world." - You can access the site HERE.

Image of the Robinson House (which is still on the grounds on what is now the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts) surrounded by men living at the Confederate Soldiers Home. About a minute of footage from the Home can be seen in one of the films.

The site has about a dozen short clips of films of Richmond, Virginia. Several from 1917 and 1918 were produced by the Ford Motor Company. Over 900 of these films taken between 1914 to 1920 by the Ford Company are held in the U.S. National Archives.

Second African Baptist Church with the State Prison in the background -
both buildings are now demolished. This image from a film dated 1935,

There a few clips showing African American life in Richmond from a different source than Ford - anyone have any idea what the source was?

An image from another film - this is the Booker-T Luncheon restaurant.

Do you have any old films of Richmond?

Again - to access the Richmond, Virginia  films from CriticalPast web site click HERE.
