Rhoads Hall, Profile of the Construction of the Building, November, 1968.

Rhoads Hall, 710 W. Franklin St., dedicated May 14, 1968, was built as a women’s dormitory. The 18-story high-rise building is named for Webster S. Rhoads Jr. (1908-1967), a Richmond businessman (who served as chairman of Miller and Rhoads, Inc. at one time) and a member of the Richmond Professional Institute (RPI) Board of Visitors from 1962 until 1967. RPI merged with the Medical College of Virginia in 1968 to become Virginia Commonwealth University. Rhoads Hall was the first dormitory built exclusively for what became VCU - before that, the school used mostly old houses and apartment buildings for student dormitories.

Below are images from the November 1968 issue of the Virginia Record published by Virginia Publishers Wing, Inc., Richmond, Virginia. The magazine was produced by the Virginia branch of the American Institute of Architects. I found these images on the Internet Archive -- you can view it HERE. The Virginia AIA also makes available its publications HERE
