In 1964 my Grandfather, James J. Redmond, Jr., of Redmond Lumber Corporation - Industrial - Marine - Contractor Supplies, located at 3400-24 Vawfer Ave, in Richmond, VA., purchased four (4) of the thirty-four (34) bullheads which were auctioned by the City. He shipped two (2) of the heads out to Saint Joseph, MO., (shipping costs were $76.45 each) where they sat outside of the office building of my Father, Dexter D. Davis' Cattle Finishing feed yard. I have no information as to what my Grandfather did with the other two (2) heads. In 1969 the two (2) heads located in MO., were moved to our Family's backyard, once the cattle business closed. The heads remained there for decades. In 2014, when the Family home was going to be listed for sale, my Mother decided the heads should be provided with new homes, I transported one (1) of the heads out to Camarillo, CA., where it stood guard over our jacuzzi for a few years. The other head was transported by a childhood friend to his home in Casper, Wyoming. in 2017, we relocated from California to Franklin, TN., and, of course, brought the bullhead with us. The friend who had taken the other bullhead to Wyoming, passed away, and in 2016. I subsequently learned his house had been sold and the bullhead left on the property. In the Fall of 2019, I drove out to Casper, and with permission of the new home owner, put the capture on the other bullhead. The two (2) bullheads were reunited in TN. . We absolutely love these bull heads, albeit one is missing an ear, while the other (recovered from WY) is missing both of its' ears and horns. It is my understanding these Terra Cotta Bullheads were created in Germany and placed onto the meat market building in the late 1880's. The foregoing reveals the travels of two (2) of these heads. If you have possession of one or more of the heads, I would enjoy hearing from you.
