I was too cheap to buy these items I found on EBAY so I saved the images to my desktop to share later on this site. The two postcards are ca. 1910 and are very rare. Stephen Putney, who ran the Battle Axe Shoe Co., lived in a pre-Civil War built house that is named for him on the MCV campus of VCU. In the 1890s he moved to 921 W. Franklin Street in a house that VCU now owns. Here are some images of that HOUSE.

Rare view of "The Capital, Richmond, Virginia," from Ballou's Pictorial (Boston) newspaper dated February 27, 1858.
Rare view of "The Capital, Richmond, Virginia," from Ballou's Pictorial (Boston) newspaper dated February 27, 1858. The ad on Ebay also says the newspaper had images of "Guard House and Alarm Bell, Richmond, Virginia," "View of the Penitentiary, Richmond, Virginia."
You can see the City Hall building in the background.

"A Night With Distinguished Men" - from Wallace's Illustrated Weekly, April 21, 1891
I don't know much about Wallace's Illustrated Weekly.this publication. Library records show that it published for about six months in Richmond in 1891. Wallace Jefferson (1864-1951) served as editor. The advertisements are very stylized. The story below is of the statues in Capitol Square commenting on the events of the day. Click on each image to read the article.
