W. H. Eanes - Tinning, Plumbing and Gas Fitting, 1307 W. Main St., Richmond, ca. 1905

These two wonderful images come to us from Stephen R. Jackson, a native of Richmond who now lives in Norfolk and is a fan of the Shockoe Examiner. Stephen's great-grandfather, William Henry Eanes, ran the company. 

Stephen would like to learn more about the Eanes plumbing company, the plumbing business in Richmond, and the Eanes family. That is his great aunt in the photograph, born in 1900. Email us if you have any more information about Eanes plumbing, etc.

W, H. Eanes, Inc. stood at 1307 W. Main St. – they were later known as Eanes and Co. when they moved to 1305 W. Main St.

Late 1910s view of the Corner of Floyd Ave. and Cherry St., near VCU.

These two images were lent to me by Richard Bland, local artist and collector. They show the corner of Floyd Ave. and Cherry Street. You can see the corner of the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart on the top right. The automobiles appear to be from the late teens so that is how I am dating this image. If you are familiar with VCU you can get a sense of where these folks are standing - it would be the crosswalk between the Student Commons and the James Branch Cabell Library. The houses seen here are on the north side of the 900 block of Floyd Ave - the grounds of the Cabell Library. They were demolished in the late 1960s to make way for the library.

In this image you can see a box camera the woman is holding. 

This postcard, from VCU Libraries' Rarely Seen Richmond postcard site, dates from the 1910s. You can see the corner turret of the house that stood at Floyd and Cherry - it stands just behind the Cathedral in this image taken in Monroe Park.
